Kingdom of Sunndi - History
back
-285 CY to 451 CY
Nine hundred years ago (around -285 CY) the people of the Aerdi tribe started to settle Sunndi.
There was little opposition from the Suel (who had just arrived themselves) and the local elves
had retreated into the vast forests. Sunndi was conquered (united is a better word) by the famous
general Azhardian in -72 CY in the name of the Great Kingdom. 350 years later the name of Sunndi
appears again on the stage of history. With the increasing tyranny of the Great Kingdom, Sunndi
declares independence in 351 CY. Four years later Sunndi is again conquered. The help of local
elves and dwarves during this short rebellion forged the bounds between the different races that
today still hold. Since that time Sunndi stayed rebellious and it joined the Iron League in 451
CY. The soldiers of the Great Kingdom continually raided and pillaged Sunndi. Many Sunndians died
as slaves in other parts of the Great Kingdom.
451 CY to 592 CY
Official records become somewhat contradictory from this time. Many of them have been written in
the court of the Great Kingdom and their records are most likely not completely truthful. In 473
CY the northrn area of Sunndi is most likely conquered and the armies of Sunndi are forced in the
Vast Swamp. It is here that the fate of Sunndi is decided in a year long campaign. The attack of
wild savages lead by pale skinned monks from the south (most likely the Scarlet Brotherhood,
although there is no official evidence to support this) in this same time muddies affairs even
more. These savages attacked both freedom fighters and the forces of the Great Kingdom. Records
of the Iron League proclaim that with the help of vollunteers from Onnwal and Irongate Sunndi is
again freed in the year 475 CY. Strangely enough, records both in Sunndi and the Great Kingdom
tell of a revolt in 525 CY, that leads to the a massacre of Sunndian citizens by the armies of
the Great Kingdom, but also leads to the replacement of the old Herzog of Sunndi. So while
officially a free nation since 475 CY, that victory of the Iron League most likely was a hollow
victory that forced the Great Kingdom to make some consessions, but did not make Sunndi totally
independent.
Then finally during the
Greyhawk Wars a decisive victory by Commadant Osson of Almor liberated Sunndi finally and truely
from the yoke of the Great Kingdom. A monument on Osson Square in Pitchfield still makes sure that people in
Sunndi remember this great man who was lost during the wars.
